Royal Purple redesign

One of the goals I have in mind for the Royal Purple is a new Web site.  The current Web site is pretty good, but it's through a third party provider.  This means we lose a lot of control over the Web site's appearance and functionality and we have to share precious ad space with the provider.

Luckily, there are plenty of free CMSs out there ready to deploy.  After getting some help from someone who's got much better programming credentials than myself, I've settled on Joomla.  My buddy even set up a test site for me on his server which I'm tinkering with now.

Perhaps I should read the manual first.

So far, this project seems as doable as I had hoped.  It will be a lot of work, but it would be an improved Web site for the RP and help me with my design and programming skills.

The trick is going to be keeping this off the front burner.  Since I'm only just starting this job, and have not promised a Web site redesign, this project is a low priority.

But it's so much fun!

I've already generated a wish list for the Web site, but have yet to consult with the RP staff.  If any of you are reading this, please let me know what you'd like to see in terms of design and functionality.

I'm also trying to think outside the box.  When doing a redesign, it's always tempting to see what others are doing.  There are good ideas out there, but playing "follow the leader" is not always the best strategy.

It will be exciting to see how it develops. Once I'm to the point of generating something presentable, I'll let you know.

In the meantime, if you're communicating with me and I start talking/writing in jibberish, just remind me to stop thinking in programming language.
